Clout chasing is only a trending term people use nowadays but the whole idea behind clout chasing is something that has existed throughout the years where one person's style is copied by other people since they have a hard time being authentic.

Cloning other people's styles has always been part of human nature. Even in business, you have corporations that engage in clout chasing by cloning other people's innovations (e.g, Snapchat Stories --> Instagram Stories). That's corporate clout chasing right there on an enterprise level and you don't get a better example than that.
