Wind rips the roof off the new Chiredzi school block

Strong winds tore the roof from a newly built two-story classroom structure at Chiredzi Government Primary School during the night on Monday, according to school officials. Headmaster Super Saiti attributed the damage to severe weather conditions and dismissed speculation about other causes. The Public Works department constructed the facility using development funds and finished the project last year, with a formal dedication ceremony planned for next month on the 14th.

Grade 7 students had been occupying the building before the incident occurred. Engineers from Public Works conducted inspections and approved the structure before its use, while the contractor selected for construction maintains a strong professional reputation. Saiti confirmed that renovation work began immediately after the damage assessment.

The headmaster stated no students will face disruption to their education as a result of the roof failure. He expressed confidence that repairs will restore the block quickly and allow normal operations to resume. The building received final engineering approval shortly before the weather event damaged the roofing materials.
