Women Empowerment Project Wraps with Music and Meaning

The Women Empowerment Project will hold its closing celebration on April 16 at Alliance Française in Banjul, starting at 5 p.m. The project began last June with the goal of advancing gender equality through arts and culture. Several organizations, including WILL, WAVE, Girls Pride, and Amnesty, have worked together during the past ten months to create spaces for dialogue and increase female participation across society.

The evening will start with a roundtable discussion titled Women and Engagement: How to Move from Awareness to Impact. Participants will discuss ways to create meaningful change for Gambian women. At 6:30 p.m., guests can enjoy refreshments and watch a video presentation about the project, allowing everyone time to network and remember what the initiative accomplished.

The night will finish with music from the all-female band Jigeen Ñi, who traveled from Dakar for the performance. The French Embassy in Senegal and The Gambia joined forces with Alliance Française Banjul to organize this invitation-only event. The celebration marks the end of nearly a year of community work focused on empowering women through cultural engagement.
