World Leaders Cheer Trumps 2nd White House Stint

Donald Trump, the 47th US president, returned to the White House on January 21. His return marked many changes, all of which moved away from former President Joe Biden's policies.

Trump signed at least 78 executive orders soon after taking his oath. These orders rescinded decisions made by the former administration, and they were part of over 200 orders expected to be signed.

Key policy issues affected include a 90-day suspension of foreign assistance. The suspension is pending review. Trump pardoned at least 1,500 people charged over the January 6 Capitol riots. He referred to them as hostages.

Trump has gone hard on illegal immigrants. He signed executive orders giving more powers to authorities. The powers are to arrest, detain, and deport aliens. Trump announced a state of emergency at the Mexico border. He deployed 1,500 more US military personnel to help man the area.

World leaders have expressed optimism for better working relations. King Charles III sent a personal message of congratulations to Trump. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU looks forward to working closely with Trump.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the best days of the US-Israeli alliance are yet to come. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Trump's peace-through-strength policy provides an opportunity for American leadership.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the US-UK relationship is one of collaboration, cooperation, and enduring partnership. Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said Taiwan looks forward to working with Trump's administration.

Panama's President Jose Raul Mulino rejected Trump's remarks over control of the Panama Canal. Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said Japan will collaborate with Trump to reinforce the Japan-US partnership.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Germany and the US have been working together successfully for a long time. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said with Trump back in office, they will turbo-charge defense spending and production.
