Xbox Summer Showcase projects are safe, from Microsoft layoffs

Microsoft fired thousands of workers across the company during a brutal day of cuts. Xbox bosses rushed to calm fears about their video game projects after the massive job losses hit. Matt Booty from Xbox Game Studios told everyone that more than 40 games are still being made right after two major titles got axed. The gaming division killed off Perfect Dark and Everwild projects completely. The Initiative studio also shut down for good during the bloodbath.

Variety reported that all games shown at Xbox Summer Showcase will keep moving forward despite the chaos. Gamers saw exciting reveals like Call of Duty Black Ops 7 and Grounded 2 during the big event. Indiana Jones got new content and Gears of War Reloaded showed fresh gameplay footage. Clockwork Revolution also appeared at the summer presentation. Every single first-party game from that showcase survived the corporate axe.

Studios making these safe games still lost workers during the company-wide massacre. The layoffs hit every part of Microsoft and not just the gaming teams. Nobody knows exactly which developers got fired or how many people lost their jobs. Turn10 racing game studio reportedly chopped half their staff but officials have not confirmed this devastating news. Details about the full extent of damage continue coming out as the day progresses.
