Yaffa wants to mend fences in Rawda Majaalis split

Momodou Lamin Yaffa asked his religious brothers to make peace. He serves as first vice president under Sheriff Nano Hydara at Rawdatul Majaalis. He shared this message Thursday night when people broke their fast at Sheriff Nano's house in Brufut.

The group split apart last year when Alhaji Bamin Jaiteh claimed his team should replace Hydara as leader. Yaffa told The Standard he felt sad about what happened between them and thought they should never have fought. His team wants to fix their relationship with the other side.

Yaffa directly addressed Bamin Jaiteh, saying they should forget past problems. He asked everyone to come back together as brothers again. He stressed that Muslims should not harbor anger toward each other. Yaffa wants both sides to stop fighting in public.

He believes nobody wins from this ongoing battle. Yaffa prays that Islamic values will help them find peace. He made clear that his side stands ready to work things out. The Rawda group started back in 2017. They aim to protect old-style Gambian Islam traditions. They have faced many challenges with the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council through the years.
