You Need N1.2bn to Snag a Senate Seat, Ali Baba Says

Popular comedian Ali Baba shared shocking prices for winning political offices across Nigeria. He spoke about corruption during a podcast interview and revealed the massive costs candidates face. Senatorial seats require around 1.2 billion naira each according to his claims. House of Representatives positions need about one billion naira to secure. State Assembly seats cost approximately 500 million naira for successful campaigns.

Governorship races demand the highest spending across different states nationwide. Delta State candidates spend roughly 20 billion naira during their election battles. Rivers State hopefuls need about 25 billion naira for winning campaigns. Northern states require smaller amounts between four and six billion naira. The comedian described politics as expensive business that fuels widespread corruption.

Politicians focus only on projects that generate money for future elections. Leaders ignore education and other public needs unless these areas provide financial benefits. The high costs of campaigns force officials to steal from government resources. Ali Baba believes this system creates a cycle of corruption throughout Nigerian politics. Expensive campaigns make honest governance nearly impossible for most elected officials.
