Zambia backs ecological impact fund to spur African climate action

Zambia steps forward as a leader for climate solutions across Africa. Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati spoke to world leaders from his office in Lusaka. He addressed the G20 Symposium on Global Justice and Solidarity through video conference. Mutati backed a new funding plan called the Ecological Impact Fund. The program aims to help countries fight environmental problems.

Africa faces the worst effects from climate change despite producing the fewest emissions. Mutati told delegates that African countries need better access to clean technology and money. The continent requires fair partnerships to build stronger defenses against weather disasters. Zambia already spends money on solar power, smart farming methods and protective measures. However, the minister said much more help is needed.

The Ecological Impact Fund focuses on African-led innovation and local solutions. African policy experts, researchers and international specialists created the program together. The fund will support green technologies that cut pollution and help poorer economies grow. These innovations must serve communities directly affected by environmental damage. The goal is scaling up projects that make real differences.

Mutati asked other African governments, wealthy nations and aid groups to support the fund. He called the effort a matter of fairness rather than charity. The symposium brought together South African officials, University of Cape Town researchers and community organizations. Leaders discussed ways to put African concerns into global decision-making processes. Climate action, debt relief and food security topped their agenda.
