Zanu-PF affiliates fracture over empowerment funds

Total chaos is breaking out over control of those pro-government groups. Major infighting has erupted inside Zanu PF linked affiliates as senior figures battle to seize empowerment funds and grassroots structures. This turmoil follows a party resolution to formally integrate these support groups into Zanu PF's own organization. Insiders say the power struggles are driven by political ambition and access to state backed resources, exposing deep factionalism. Questions are mounting about transparency and whether funds meant for ordinary citizens are being diverted to serve elite interests. The president's special investment adviser, Paul Tungwarara, recently warned some affiliate leaders their days were numbered, announcing an audit into resource use. Sources claim his remarks were triggered by misleading reports from party elites trying to wrest control.

These politicians are allegedly hijacking empowerment funds channeled through Tungwarara's office while demanding controlling stakes in the organizations. They are also accused of fueling divisions by creating rival factions within the affiliates ahead of the integration process. Key groups being targeted include Vapostori for Economic Development, Vendors for ED, and Cross Border Traders for ED, among others. Specific leadership fights have emerged, like the challenge against Varakashi for ED founder Jones Musara and an attempted coup within Vendors for ED against founder Samora Chisvo. New splinter groups have also formed, such as a multi-faith dialogue led by Obey Mapuranga and a separate women's cross-border traders group. An insider said the Mutare integration resolution has intensified this infiltration and factionalism. The party's political commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, confirmed the matter is under investigation but stated the funds should benefit everyone. The director of information, Farai Marapira, called the affiliates independent organizations with their own constitutions, though he noted some Zanu PF members may belong to them.
