John Paradza, the Zanu PF national deputy secretary for youth affairs and Gutu West legislator, recently spoke at the party's Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting in Masvingo. He stated that the revolutionary party would not allow the winds of change sweeping across Southern Africa to affect Zimbabwe. Paradza emphasized that they would safeguard Zanu PF and President Emmerson Mnangagwa's rule at all costs.
According to Paradza, no one will succeed Mnangagwa without his blessing. He urged people to protect the party to avoid what happened in Botswana and Zambia, where opposition parties were elected, marking a significant shift in the control of Southern African countries by revolutionary parties.
Paradza dismissed the idea of anyone replacing President Mnangagwa without his approval. He stressed the importance of fixing the Zanu PF party and remaining focused as a province. Paradza also warned that those who fail to toe the party line risk being expelled.
Despite President Mnangagwa's assurances that he will step down in 2028 at the end of his constitutional term, Paradza insisted that they would push for the extension of his rule. He stated that they would follow Mnangagwa regardless of the constitution, as some might try to hide behind it.
Paradza believes that Mnangagwa was shown a vision by God, and they want to support him in fulfilling that vision. He emphasized the importance of loyalty to the party and warned that those who oppose the party's decisions could be surprised when the President leaves, and Paradza will be at the forefront supporting his successor.
The Masvingo party leadership has reignited the debate by endorsing a slogan urging Mnangagwa to seek a third term in office. Provincial chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa clarified that all 10 provinces agreed to the resolution that Mnangagwa should continue as Zanu PF secretary and President until 2030, despite some distortion of the message.
