Zanu PF cuts Mutare conference delegates, focuses on economy

The 22nd Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference in Mutare will feature a reduced number of delegates and a sharper focus on economic issues. Set to take place from Oct. 13 to 18 at the Mutare Polytechnic Pavilion Grounds, the conference will begin with meetings of the Politburo and Central Committee in Harare. Unlike previous years, which drew more than 7,000 participants, this year’s event will be limited to about 4,000 delegates, foreign representatives, and essential service providers.

Zanu PF Director of Information and Publicity Farai Marapira said the scaled-down format aims to ensure that only elected representatives attend, allowing for substantive discussions and more effective communication between party leadership and grassroots members. Delegate accreditation began this week at party headquarters. The conference, themed “Attainment of Vision 2030 through Economic Empowerment and Value Addition,” will review progress on development goals and the party’s 2023 electoral mandate.
