Zanu PF Leader Says Extending Mnangagwa's Term is Legal.
Daniel Garwe is the Zanu PF chairman for Mashonaland East. He spoke to supporters in Murehwa over the weekend. Garwe said changing the Constitution to let President Mnangagwa stay in office past 2028 is allowed and democratic.
Last year, the party met in Bulawayo. They decided President Mnangagwa should stay until 2030 so he could lead the country to the Vision 2030 goals. Garwe said everyone agreed to this at the meeting.
"The people want the President to keep leading," Garwe said. "He is not pushing for this. We are because we see the progress he has made."
Some people say this move is not democratic. But Garwe said, "It is democratic and constitutional to amend the Constitution."
He said those who do not understand Vision 2030 should learn more. He stated that what the people want matters most.
Garwe told supporters that "Vision 2030 is unstoppable." He warned critics to rethink their plans.
He also discussed party members' rude comments online and said they could be kicked out for this. Garwe said Zanu PF members must respect leaders and pray for the President and others to have wisdom.
"Most Zimbabweans back Vision 2030," he said. "This vision will succeed."
Garwe wants supporters to spread the message about the President staying until 2030. He said to teach those who disagree not to fight with them.
