ZIFA drops Munetsi, AFCON call sparks protocol play

Zimbabwe's football association says it had to bench Marshall Munetsi for AFCON because his club never signed off on letting him play while injured. The whole thing comes down to FIFA's Club Protection Programme, which basically requires written consent and liability waivers when players with injuries get called up for international matches, and Munetsi's club refused to provide the paperwork.

Zifa confirmed that head coach Marian Marinica kept the vice-captain in the loop during the entire process, and the association made it clear that secretariat officials like Kudzai Chitima don't pick the squad. They're tired of people blaming administrative staff for team selection decisions when those calls fall strictly under the technical team's jurisdiction.

The Warriors are heading to Morocco for the tournament, where they'll face Egypt, South Africa, and Angola in group stage matches.
