Zim courts Russia, Algeria, Egypt for trade and clout

Zimbabwe's foreign minister is attending a major conference in Egypt focused on ties with Russia. Amon Murwira held separate meetings with his counterparts from Algeria, Egypt, and Russia during the event. The talks emphasized strengthening bilateral relationships and advancing common African interests.

With Algeria's minister, Murwira reviewed progress on past cooperation agreements. He also highlighted Zimbabwe's campaign for a temporary seat on the UN Security Council, seeking Algeria's ongoing support. Discussions with Egypt's foreign minister centered on expanding collaboration across various sectors, leading to a planned official visit to Zimbabwe early next year. The meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov focused on potential mining partnerships, exploring the use of Russian technology to develop Zimbabwe's mineral resources.
