Zimbabwe and Mozambique have grown closer since 1980 through political, social, economic, and cultural ties. Their friendship builds on shared values and mutual trust. From 2018 to mid-2024, Mozambique exported $890 million to Zimbabwe and imported $161 million. Mozambique sends electricity, fertilizers, aluminum wire, and petroleum products to its neighbor. Zimbabwe has started 46 projects worth $151 million in Mozambique over the last decade, with industry making up 32 percent and fishing 26 percent.
Last year, Zimbabwe sold $391 million in goods to Mozambique, mainly minerals, chromium ore, and processed tobacco. These exports have grown slightly at 0.6 percent yearly since 2018. During that same period, Mozambican exports to Zimbabwe jumped nearly 20 percent annually, reaching $306 million in 2023, with petroleum, electricity, and soybean oil as the main products.
