Zimbabwe Farmers Strike Gold with 280M Payout

Zimbabwe's Grain Marketing Board paid wheat farmers over 280 million ZiG dollars after receiving fresh funding from the treasury. The government agency collected an extra 52 million ZiG dollars to help settle outstanding farmer payments. GMB Chief Executive Edison Badarai confirmed the board had cleared all US dollar debts worth 33 million dollars to wheat producers. Treasury support helped the organization meet its payment obligations to local farmers. The ministry backing GMB provided crucial financial resources for these settlements.

Badarai praised farmers for supporting the board's efforts toward wheat self-sufficiency goals. The GMB leader thanked the parent ministry and treasury for making payment disbursements possible. Wheat growers worked closely with the marketing board throughout the delivery process. Total payments for wheat deliveries reached 282 million ZiG dollars and 33 million US dollars. The board values continued farmer cooperation in achieving food security targets.

Government officials set ambitious wheat production targets for the upcoming growing season. Leaders want farmers to plant 120,000 hectares of wheat during the current agricultural cycle. The expanded planting area should produce 600,000 metric tons of wheat grain. This production level would boost national food security and reduce import dependence. Strategic wheat farming helps Zimbabwe achieve greater agricultural independence.
