Zimbabwe Minister Seeks BRICS Role in Moscow

Zimbabwe Foreign Minister Amon Murwira came to Moscow to talk with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Lavrov told reporters that both countries treat each other fairly and with respect. They discussed how to improve trade between their countries.

Lavrov said they agreed to work on finding minerals, making energy, including nuclear power, growing crops, studying space, and building computer systems. Russia helps 125 students from Zimbabwe study at Russian schools each year. They may add more spots for students soon. Russia plans a big meeting with African leaders in 2026.

They will hold a smaller meeting somewhere in Africa next year. Murwira said Zimbabwe and Russia already have strong political bonds. Both want to create more business links. When a TV reporter asked about Zimbabwe joining BRICS, Murwira said BRICS helps countries work together on money matters.

Zimbabwe asked to join BRICS and is waiting for all members to decide. This trip is the first time Murwira has visited Moscow as Foreign Minister. A TV reporter named Yana Panferova from TV BRICS asked him several questions about international issues. Murwira explained that Zimbabwe has already started the application process for BRICS membership.
