Zimbabwe Seeks Reparations from UK for Colonial Wrongs

A group in Zimbabwe wants to research how British rule hurt the country's people long ago. They plan to write down what happened and ask Britain to pay money to make up for the harm.

Bishop Felix Mukonowengwe leads this group, the Zimbabwe National Elders Forum, or ZNEF. He said they would work with chiefs and experts to gather facts.

The group met with Zimbabwe's president, Emmerson Mnangagwa. He told them to talk to many people in different places. They want to collect strong evidence to bring to the UK.

Bishop Mukonowengwe said it is important for Zimbabweans to come together on this issue. For many years, he said, white settlers took away land and animals from the local people. He believes Britain should repay them for these losses.

Some books have been written about Zimbabwe's past. But the Bishop thinks more needs to be done to record how much the people suffered. He hopes their research will help do that.

The group believes President Mnangagwa will support their efforts. They want to make sure this difficult history is not forgotten. They say it is time for the country to seek justice for the wrongs of the past.
