Zimbabwe sets up retirement unit as civil servants panic

Zimbabwe's Public Service Commission created a dedicated retirement planning department after research revealed widespread unpreparedness among government workers. Dr Vincent Hungwe, commission chairperson, announced the initiative during a conference that concluded Friday in Bulawayo. The study found most civil servants lack adequate preparation for post-employment life. Officials identified this trend as requiring immediate intervention through structured programming.

The newly formed department will develop policies and implement educational initiatives across all career levels. Workers will receive mandatory training upon entering service and continued guidance throughout their employment. The commission plans targeted programs for entry-level, mid-career and pre-retirement employees. Economic constraints and demographic changes have complicated traditional retirement planning approaches, prompting this comprehensive response from government leadership.
