Zim's Prez Mourns India Plane Crash Tragedy

President Emmerson Mnangagwa sent sympathy messages to India after a deadly plane crash killed more than 200 people Thursday. The Air India flight carried 242 passengers and crew when it went down near Ahmedabad airport. Mnangagwa posted his condolences on social media platform X. He told Indian leaders that Zimbabwe supports their country during this sad time. The president said Zimbabweans pray for crash victims and their families.

Police recovered 204 bodies from the wreckage of Flight 171. Officers cannot tell how many people died on the aircraft versus those killed on the ground. One British passenger survived the crash and received medical treatment. The London-bound plane held passengers from multiple countries when it crashed after takeoff. Flight 171 carried 169 Indians, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese travelers, one Canadian, twelve crew members and two pilots.
