ZRA Runs Sluice Gate Tests as Kariba Dam Rehab Wraps Up

River officials tested floodgates at Kariba Dam today as they finish fixing everything up. Water rushed down into the reshaped pool below for about four minutes during these checks. The repair work started back in 2019. Engineers wanted to make sure nothing leaked when they released water amounts similar to those that spin power turbines.

ZRA planning expert Munesushe Mudzi talked about checking how well their four years of work turned out. They tested Sluice Number 2 on Friday as part of their quality inspections. The test used 1500 cubic meters of water, equal to just three seconds of normal power generation. The team needs to confirm that all stop beams are close tightly without letting any water through. These tests help ensure the massive dam works properly after years of repairs.
