chadonha

this is bosh ("grand larceny") wherein a group of people steal money or personal property by using a perfidious job offer or a confidence trick.

The way chadonha is carried out is either as follows: one person deliberately drops a wallet in front of a target individual while walking. When the victim picks it up another scammer behind the victim (who also happens to be part of the group but unbeknownst to the victim) asks them to share the money in the wallet at a disclosed location.

When they arrive the swindler instructs the victim to go inside a building to count the money but on the condition that they should briefly leave their belongings with them as collateral security to make sure they don't flee the scene with all the money.

However, the catch is whilst the victim is inside counting money, the same crook who has the victim's personal belongings hits the road and the rest is history.
