chipoko

means a ghost account or a throwaway social media handle that you create to hide your true identity from other people or in other words, a keyboard warrior's social media handle for special operations.

Listed below are some of the reasons Zimbos may temporarily use chipoko:
  • to maintain a respectful image in the local community and workplace environment because HR might see those tweets.
  • to address particular persons who are friends of friends without ruffling the feathers of other close friends in the mix.
  • to deliberately start a cyberchimurega for personal gain (clout chasing) or for the sole sake of just kuzvifonera.
Note: This word chipoko in its formal usage in chiShona language translates to "apparition" in the English tongue. Multiple ghost accounts in Shona are called either zvipoko, zvimbwanana, or zvidhoma.
