2100 NRM Hopefuls Snatch Nomination Forms

Over 2,100 people picked nomination forms to run for National Resistance Movement positions during the first week. Party officials counted 285 aspirants collecting papers on Tuesday for different political seats. The group wants 143 parliament members, 56 district women representatives, and 67 local council leaders. Dr Tanga Odoi leads the NRM Electoral Commission and sees more young candidates joining races. Former lawmakers return to seek another chance at representing their communities.

Candidates must submit completed forms between June 17 and June 30 according to party rules. Odoi defends the 3 million shilling nomination fee against complaints about high costs. Harriet Tibulihwa Ssali Abwooli challenges Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja for Kakumiro Woman MP seat. The challenger criticizes current leaders for giving handouts instead of creating lasting jobs. Abwooli promises income projects that help families earn money every day.

State Minister Lillian Aber seeks another term as Kitgum Woman MP to finish empowerment programs. Fidel Mubangizi wants to defeat Naomi Kabasharira and build hospitals for Rushenyi County voters. Seith Murarira campaigns for Mbarara City mayor with plans for better sanitation and security. Baker Kasisi eyes the Isingiro North seat currently held by Minister Bright Rwamirama. Party consensus meetings aim to reduce fighting between competing candidates across Uganda.
