Africmed's screening just ships women to EFSTH

Africmed International Hospital partnered with the University of The Gambia Medical Students Association to conduct breast cancer screening and education in greater Banjul. The hospital's CEO, Dr. Omar Jagne, said early detection saves lives as the initiative marked part of Africmed's 10-year social responsibility work in The Gambia.

Medical students and doctors from the university and Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital examined 52 women on Friday, Oct. 18, 2025. Staff members registered participants, provided counseling and performed clinical breast examinations. Women with abnormal results received referrals for additional evaluation at the hospital.

Association President Mamadou B. Jallow said the program taught women about risk factors and self-examination while encouraging young people to participate in health advocacy. He thanked the Ministry of Health and Gender, the hospital, the Department of Surgery and the National Cancer Control Program for guidance. Carmou Global Properties also contributed to the awareness month event.
