With the Bihar Assembly elections approaching, AIMIM’s decision to contest four seats in the Mithilanchal region has triggered political reactions across party lines. Congress leader Udit Raj on Wednesday urged Muslim voters not to divide their votes, warning that a split could weaken opposition prospects. He said voters should avoid repeating past mistakes that, in his view, led to years of hardship under the current government.
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi recently announced that his party will field candidates in Jale, Bisfi, Keoti, and Darbhanga town. The party, which won five seats in Seemanchal in the previous election, aims to expand its influence beyond that region. Congress MP Manoj Kumar downplayed AIMIM’s impact, saying Bihar voters will not be misled this time.
Owaisi made the announcement on Oct. 6 at a public rally in Kumrauli, Darbhanga district, signaling plans to strengthen AIMIM’s base across north Bihar. Political observers say the move could affect Muslim voter consolidation, which traditionally favors the INDIA bloc led by the RJD and Congress.
The 243-member Bihar Assembly will go to polls in two phases, on Nov. 6 and Nov. 11, with votes counted on Nov. 14.
