Air India Names Crew Members Killed in AI171 Crash, Reduces Flights

Air India released the names of 10 cabin crew members who died when Flight AI171 crashed last week. The airline called them beloved workers and cherished friends on social media. The Boeing 787 went down right after leaving Ahmedabad airport and was heading to London.

The crash killed more than 260 people when the plane hit a medical college in a crowded area. Air India already told the public who the captain and first officer were earlier this week. The company will cut back flights on Boeing 787 and 777 planes starting Saturday through mid-July.

Air India says it wants to do extra safety checks before flights take off. Middle East airspace problems also make flights take longer than usual. The airline hopes this will make schedules more reliable and cause fewer last-minute passenger problems.

Some flights between India and London got cancelled until at least July 15. A route between Delhi and Nairobi stops running until June 30. Flights to North America, Europe, Australia and East Asia will happen less often but keep running.

Nobody knows what made the Dreamliner crash yet. The plane had one new engine and another that did not need service until December. Investigators sent the black box to America because it got damaged. Some people think both engines failed or the hydraulics and electronics broke down. Air India checked all 33 of its Dreamliner planes and put 26 back to work.
