Apple gets desperate with a cheap A18 Pro MacBook for $599

Apple plans to introduce a budget-friendly MacBook model with a $599 starting price point. DigiTimes reports indicate the device will feature a 12.9-inch display, making it smaller than the current 13.6-inch MacBook Air. The company expects to price this laptop between $599 and $699 while equipping it with an A18 Pro processor found in iPhone 16 Pro models.

Manufacturing schedules suggest component production will begin during the third quarter of 2025. Quanta will handle final assembly operations in the fourth quarter, positioning Apple for a late 2025 or early 2026 product launch. This pricing strategy represents a significant departure from previous Mac pricing structures that drew criticism for high costs.

The affordable MacBook will compete directly with the M4 Mac mini but offers distinct advantages through built-in display technology and portable design. Market analysts expect this aggressive pricing approach will pressure competitors to develop similar budget-conscious alternatives with comparable hardware specifications.
