He pulled out a gun when prison officers were taking inmates to a transport van. The officers froze when he aimed his weapon at them, completely surprising the security team. He then forced a driver out of a car and raced away from the courthouse.
People watching said someone from the jail might have sneaked the gun at him before the escape attempt. His partner, Tafadzwa Marondera, tried to run away but failed.
