Ashanti Drains Get Mega 12 Day Clean to Beat Floods

NADMO workers started cleaning blocked drains across the Ashanti Region on Thursday. The disaster management team plans to clear 17 major waterways over the next 12 days. Heavy rains often cause flooding when these drains cannot handle the water flow properly. Workers began their cleanup project at the Aboabo River close to the Airport Roundabout. Other problem areas need attention at Pelele River, Asabi, and Anloga Junction.

Dirt and trash have filled these important drainage channels throughout the region. Solid waste blocks water from moving through the system during the rainy season. NADMO wants to prevent serious flooding around Greater Kumasi before more storms arrive. Regional Director Alhaji Ibrahim received permission from Minister Frank Amoakohene to start the work. Heavy machinery will help remove years of buildup from these clogged waterways.

The Aboabo Nsuo drain has become very narrow because waste keeps piling up inside. Water cannot flow at normal speed through these restricted channels anymore. NADMO teams will work with other groups to reduce flood dangers across the area. Cleaning these drains should restore their ability to handle large amounts of rainwater. Officials hope this effort will protect communities from future flood damage.
