Ashanti Regional Prisons Command Treats BECE Candidates at Kumasi Central Prison

Five students who finished their basic education exams received a special treat at their prison school Thursday. The Ashanti Regional Prisons Command served fried rice and chicken to the learners at Reformation Basic and Senior High School. Assistant Director of Prisons Courage Astem attended the event as the main guest. He praised the students for their hard work despite living in crowded conditions. The meal aimed to boost student spirits and encourage others to pursue education.

The school operates inside Kumasi Central Prison yard and serves an unusual student body. All students and teachers are inmates who work together to improve their lives through learning. More than ten prisoners have received training to become volunteer teachers at the facility. The school plans to enter five candidates for West African Examinations Council tests later this year. This arrangement shows how education can transform lives even behind bars.

Chief Superintendent of Prisons Sadia A. Mohammed runs the prison education program. Chief Officer Augustine Arthur leads the school administration team. Lance Corporal Seth Asamoah and Second Class Officer John Amuzu help with daily operations. The prison leadership believes education helps inmates prepare for better lives after release. They have created a system where prisoners teach other prisoners.

Prison officials have asked the community for help with the school program. They want individuals and organizations to donate teaching materials and learning supplies. Better resources would improve the quality of education at the facility. The donations would support the rehabilitation mission through academic programs. This support could help more inmates transform their lives through education.
