Bangladesh elects to bat in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz called heads and won the coin flip Saturday afternoon. He decided his team would bat first against Sri Lanka during the second cricket match of their three-game series. The visitors desperately need a victory to stay alive after losing the opening game badly. Sri Lanka crushed Bangladesh when their captain Charith Asalanka chose to bat first during that first encounter. The pressure is mounting for the Bangladesh squad as they face elimination.

Bangladesh coaches dropped wicketkeeper Litton Das after he failed to score any runs during the first match. The experienced player has struggled with poor batting performances recently and lost his spot on the team. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed earned a rest despite taking four wickets last game as part of managing his workload. Shamim Hossain and Hasan Mahmud joined the squad as replacements for the dropped players. Shamim returns to international cricket for the first time since the 2023 Asia Cup tournament.

Sri Lanka also switched up their lineup with two fresh faces for the crucial second match. The home team brought back spin bowler Dunith Wellalage to replace all-rounder Milan Rathnayake. Veteran fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera took the place of Ishan Malinga for the encounter. Both teams strengthened their bowling attacks after spin dominated the first game. The tactical changes show how seriously both sides are taking this must-win situation.
