Bangladesh Government Launches Assessment Tools to Evaluate Primary Education Quality

Bangladesh will start checking how well children learn at primary schools across the nation. The government plans to use new Assessment Tools starting July 1 for six months. Officials want to find out how students perform in grades three through five. The program will look at education quality and how teachers work with children. School attendance and the learning environment will also be measured.

District commissioners will watch over the program at local levels. Education officers will help students who struggle with their studies. The assessment covers three main subjects that children must learn well. Bengali language, mathematics and English will be tested during this period. Teachers and school leaders will handle most of the checking work.

Schools must verify how each student performs from July through August. Head teachers and their assistants will complete this important task. The program will create action plans to help children who fall behind. Teachers will work to fix learning problems between July 16 and August 31. Special activities will help students catch up with their classmates.

About 25 percent of students at each school will face additional testing. Education officials will track how 10 percent of children improve over time. One subject will be checked each day from July 1 through July 15. Schools with many students might need extra days to finish the work. Regular classes will continue during the assessment period.

Government leaders hope all primary schools will improve their teaching quality. The program aims to help both strong schools and those that need more support.
