Barbourfields Chibuku shocker, Sibanda, Mbeba ice Scottland

Highlanders achieved a remarkable turnaround against Scottland at Barbourfields Stadium during their Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final encounter. The match concluded with a 2-2 regulation draw before Highlanders secured victory through a 2-1 penalty shootout triumph. Captain Andrew Mbeba scored the decisive late equalizer while goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda saved four penalty attempts. Both veteran leaders had returned from extended absences to guide their struggling teammates. Peter Muduhwa from Scottland experienced particular disappointment as his former teammate Mbeba delivered the crushing blow.

Coach Hendrikus Pieter de Jongh credited the leadership duo with transforming team performance since their return. The Highlanders had previously languished in ninth position, with relegation concerns under their previous management. Sibanda brings 16 years of club experience, while Mbeba provides defensive stability that younger players desperately need. The team currently sits ninth with 33 points from 28 matches alongside Chicken Inn and Manica Diamonds. De Jongh targets seven points from their remaining six league fixtures while preparing for a semi-final clash against Dynamos.
