Bashir Ahmad calls out fake bombing narrative, truth buried

An ex-aide to the previous Nigerian president, a guy named Bashir Ahmad, claims a recent terror attack in Maiduguri, Borno State will be spun into propaganda later. He specifically called out media outfits like Channels TV and The Nation News for their coverage. The incident was a bombing at a Juma’at Mosque in the Gamboru Ward area near Customs, hitting people during Maghrib prayers. Ahmad argues these outlets are deliberately twisting the facts to fit a story about Muslim-on-Christian violence in the northern region. He says the real story, about Muslims being targeted at their own mosque, will get totally buried.

According to his social media posts, this misinformation will harden into a false historical record in about two or three years. He believes the current reporting, designed for clicks and engagement, intentionally erases context. Sensational headlines from these platforms are setting a dangerous narrative. That narrative will then be weaponized long after the actual details of the Christmas Eve attack are forgotten.

The whole situation, he insists, is not some accidental mix-up. It is a direct result of choices made by specific news organizations. Their manipulation of the story oils a pre-existing narrative. When the truth gets buried like this, falsehoods become the accepted version of events. This attack, carried out by suspected Boko Haram insurgents using an IED, will be misremembered. It will be falsely cited as clear evidence of sectarian violence aimed at Christians, completely inverting the reality of who was victimized that day.
