Local officials in Bududa district have requested the establishment of a new administrative region called Namaatso during a Saturday campaign event attended by President Yoweri Museveni at Nangako town council. District NRM chairman Wekhola Mukhwana Koloto explained that areas including Lutsekhe and Mabono face accessibility challenges that limit effective governance and public service provision across the territory, which spans 23 sub-counties and five town councils serving approximately 300,000 residents.
Museveni did not address the district creation proposal but confirmed government approval of financing for a 29-kilometer circular route connecting Bubulo and Bududa. The president indicated the infrastructure project would enhance agricultural product transportation to Mbale and the surrounding commercial centers.
