Chattogram Customs Commissioner Temporarily Suspended

The Finance Ministry kicked out a top customs officer for skipping work when he should have been there. Zakir Hossain runs the Chattogram Customs office but decided not to show up on two important days last month. The government fired off an official notice Tuesday telling everyone about his punishment. His absence messed up important government work that needed to happen. The ministry made it clear they would not tolerate this kind of behavior from senior officials.

Hossain missed work on June 21 and June 28 even though his supervisors told him to be there. The National Board of Revenue had canceled the usual weekend break for June 28 and ordered all officers to report for duty. Every customs worker received clear instructions about the special work schedule that month. Hossain ignored these orders and stayed away from his post anyway. His actions violated direct commands from the revenue board leadership.

The government suspended Hossain under official discipline rules that govern all public servants. He also received a formal warning letter asking him to explain his actions to his supervisors. The customs chief has exactly seven business days to write back with his side of the story. His response will determine what happens to his career and government position. The Finance Ministry expects a detailed explanation for his workplace violations.
