Chebukati body reaches Kitale airstrip for farewell

Chebukati's body arrived at Kitale airstrip late Thursday ahead of his Saturday burial at Sabata farm. Family, friends, and local politicians gathered at the airstrip to welcome his remains home. MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi encouraged everyone from Trans Nzoia to attend the funeral and honor Chebukati with their presence.

Wanyonyi asked attendees to respect the family by avoiding political discussions during the ceremony. He emphasized that Chebukati served the country as a civil servant, not as a politician. According to the MP, people should come together just to mourn him and save campaign talk for future elections.

Eric Nyongesa spoke for the family last week about what happened at the hospital. Doctors tried but failed to revive Chebukati in the end. Medical tests discovered his brain cancer in April 2023, only months after he left his government position. The family quickly arranged medical care in Germany, where doctors removed the tumor through surgery.

Nyongesa shared that Chebukati spent several months overseas recovering from his operation. He returned to Kenya around July, feeling much better. Between then and early 2024, Chebukati traveled internationally to participate in various election forums. He stayed active in his professional field until his health declined again.
