Chelsea Axes Nine Stars in Summer Clearout

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca plans to sell nine players during the summer transfer window. The coach wants to reduce his squad size and remove athletes who don't fit his future plans. BBC Sport confirms the Blues have marked these nine players for departure ahead of next season.

Maresca created a list of players he no longer trusts for his team. The group contains Raheem Sterling, Axel Disasi, Djordje Petrovic, Armando Broja, João Félix, Renato Veiga, Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesley While. Both Sterling and Félix were excluded from Chelsea's FIFA Club World Cup squad in the United States.

Sterling spent last season on loan at Arsenal but struggled to make an impact at Emirates Stadium. The England player failed to convince the Gunners to pursue a permanent transfer. Félix also went on loan during January and played for AC Milan through the season's end. The Italian club decided against signing the Portuguese forward permanently after his temporary stint at San Siro.
