Cherry Audio Spins KR55C Drum Machine to Shock Drum Fans

Cherry Audio recently made a new digital drum machine called KR-55C. They based it on classic KORG rhythm boxes - the KR-55A and KR-55B from the post-punk era. These older machines never became super famous, but musicians still love their unique sound. Cherry Audio combined features from both models to create something special. Their version includes all 240 factory patterns, intros, and fills found in the original machines. The company added another 200 patterns and drum kits that work for many different music styles beyond what the originals could do.

The screen changes depending on whether you select the A or B model. Extra pages let you do things the original machines never could. You can make beats using the familiar sixteen-button design that many drum machines use. This layout works for both step-by-step programming and real-time pattern creation. The software lets you chain up to 99 patterns together for complete songs. Instead of using recorded samples like many modern drum machines, Cherry Audio carefully recreated each sound through analog modeling techniques. This approach captures the authentic character of those vintage rhythm boxes.

The Instrument Edit panel gives you control over each drum sound. You can adjust tuning and EQ settings for every instrument, creating possibilities far beyond what the original hardware offered. Every sound has its mixer channel with panning controls plus mute and solo buttons. You can add effects to each instrument separately, including overdrive, flanger, chorus, delay, and reverb. The master section includes both a compressor and a limiter for controlling the overall volume. Cherry Audio designed everything to work smoothly with modern recording software. It automatically syncs with your projects, lets you drag patterns as MIDI into your songs, provides separate outputs for each sound, and offers complete automation support.

You can buy KR-55C right away for $49. It works on both Windows and Mac computers with all major plugin formats, including VST, VST3, AU, and AAX. Musicians can purchase it directly from Cherry Audio or through Plugin Boutique. The software brings those classic analog rhythm machines into today with expanded features that make them much more versatile than the originals ever were. These improvements help producers create everything from authentic vintage beats to modern rhythm patterns with that special analog character. The extensive editing options mean you can craft entirely new sounds based on the classic foundation of those KORG rhythm boxes.
