Clair Obscur crowned 2025's GOTY king by critics

A random indie RPG just clapped, absolute cheeks snatching the third-highest award count ever. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 secured 291 Game of the Year wins during the 2025 season, according to tracking data from ResetEra user Angie. This turn-based surprise managed to edge out the 288 trophies Baldur's Gate 3 held, but still fell short of the high scores The Last of Us Part II set and the massive 435 wins belonging to Elden Ring. The game swept major events like the Golden Joysticks and the big show that Geoff Keighley hosts, while dominating media lists globally.

The aggregated data suggests critics heavily favor single-player narrative experiences over live-service cash cows. Naughty Dog leads the developer pack with four entries in the top rankings, while Rockstar and Nintendo also carry multiple hits. Overwatch remains the solitary multiplayer title sitting in the top twenty-one slots. Astro Bot stands out as the only non-RPG platformer in the top ten.
