DGHS watches as dengue plague cripples Dhaka and Barishal

Bangladesh faces another deadly blow as dengue fever claims one more victim while sending 420 people rushing to hospital beds nationwide during the past day. Health officials tallied patients streaming into medical facilities across eight divisions with Barishal bearing the heaviest burden at 116 new admissions. Chattogram followed close behind with 79 fresh cases while Dhaka division logged 60 additional patients requiring immediate medical attention. The capital city split its caseload between northern and southern corporations with 25 and 57 patients respectively seeking emergency treatment. Khulna recorded 26 new hospitalizations as other regions reported smaller numbers with Mymensingh at nine, Rangpur at three, and Rajshahi division adding 45 more patients to the growing total.

The mosquito-transmitted disease has already infected 14,880 people since January while killing 56 victims across the country according to health department statistics. Medical staff managed to send 481 recovered patients back home during the same 24-hour period as new cases continued flooding treatment centers. Officials reminded citizens that last year brought far worse devastation with dengue striking 101,214 people and causing 575 deaths nationwide. The Directorate General of Health Services released these latest figures as medical professionals brace for what could become another challenging dengue season.
