Diddy appeals 4-year prison term as lawsuits pile up

Sean Diddy Combs plans to challenge his federal conviction after receiving more than four years in prison and a $500,000 fine for transporting people across state lines for sex. Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo told reporters the sentence improperly considered conduct for which jurors acquitted his client. Combs faced potential life imprisonment on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, but was cleared of those accusations.

The 55-year-old executive has been in custody for approximately one year following his 2024 arrest. Federal guidelines eliminate parole eligibility and could allow his release in three years. Prosecutors relied on the Mann Act from 1910 to secure the conviction after witnesses testified about coerced sexual encounters at parties.

Legal troubles began for the Bad Boy Records founder in 1996 with a conviction for criminal mischief. Singer Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit in 2023 alleging rape and abuse before settling for $20 million within one day. Nearly 100 civil cases have followed across the United States, citing assault and harassment.
