DU halts education for massive July Uprising anniversary party

University officials unveiled plans for major festivities marking one year since the July Mass Uprising shook the nation. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stepped up to the microphones at the Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom and laid out the celebration schedule. The treasurer-turned-convener had Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed and Cultural Affairs Joint Secretary Mizanur Rahman backing him during the announcement. Dhaka University teamed up with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs to put together what they call the July Mass Uprising Reawakening Programs-2025. Tomorrow evening at 6:30 sharp, the whole shebang kicks off.

Campus crowds can expect the July Women's Day festivities to roll out tomorrow, featuring fancy audio-visual shows and cultural acts. Drones will buzz overhead, putting on their spectacle for students and faculty gathered below. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs joins forces with the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, the university, and the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to organize the events. Special programs honoring teachers and students take center stage on July 17. August 5 brings the biggest bash of all when the main July Mass Uprising Day celebration takes center stage.

Academic departments will host seminars that dive deep into the uprising's significance. Residential halls and institutes plan separate discussion sessions as students prepare for a two-day debate festival centered on the July Uprising and youth voices. Essay contests will let students share their personal experiences from those historic days.
