Duale cancels 348 more internships for ungraduated nurses

The Ministry of Health canceled internship assignments for 348 nursing degree candidates after discovering their ineligibility. Health CS Aden Duale announced that these students had not completed graduation requirements or obtained proper regulatory approval. The ministry has enforced strict policies from 2016 and 2020 that mandate official completion before internship placement. Government regulations limit annual positions to 2,000 slots for qualified nursing graduates. Priority goes to candidates who have fulfilled all academic and professional requirements.

Earlier actions affected 306 additional students who lacked proper qualifications during the 2025/2026 review process. Baraton University had the highest number of revoked placements at 92 cases. Kirinyaga University lost 46 positions, while Pwani University had 48 cancellations. Other institutions faced smaller reductions, with Kenyatta University losing 22 spots. The ministry discovered that 316 qualified candidates had been accidentally omitted from the original placement lists and will receive their deserved positions.
