A woman ended the lives of her two young children before taking her life on Monday in Malda district, West Bengal. Rupali Haldar, 28, strangled her seven-year-old son Ayan and her six-month-old daughter before hanging herself from a ceiling fan. Police discovered the bodies after family members broke down the bedroom door when Haldar failed to wake by mid-morning.
The tragedy followed months of marital conflict between Haldar and her husband Asit Halder. The couple had been staying at her father's residence in Gangarampur within South Dinajpur district. A disagreement erupted on Sunday night when Haldar refused to let her husband take their son to view Durga Puja festivities. Authorities arrested Asit Halder following the incident, and officers sent all three bodies for autopsy examination.
