Erasto Sima calls Kagera's parents

Erasto Sima, the Bukoba District Commissioner, has called for a collaborative effort between parents and teachers to address significant issues of student truancy and dropouts. He identified parental involvement as essential for improving academic results and student retention. Sima stressed that a lack of food in schools severely hinders pupils' concentration and learning capabilities, leading to poor performance.

He urged parents across the nation to contribute staples like maize and sugar to support school meal programs, noting that parental reluctance to participate creates a damaging vacuum. The commissioner also cited other challenges, including parents who neglect their children's academic progress and students facing long, discouraging commutes. To improve nutrition, he recommended establishing school health feeding clubs and praised several local wards for their successful programs. Separately, Sima highlighted the need to combat child malnutrition, encouraging intensified breastfeeding education and the use of fortified foods to reduce the region's high stunting rate.
