Family injured as vehicle overturns on Gampola-Nuwara Eliya road in bad weather

A car crash hurt four people from the same family on Saturday afternoon near Nuwara Eliya. Two adults and two young children suffered injuries when their car flipped over on the main road between Gampola and Nuwara Eliya. The accident happened at 5 p.m. at Bambarakelle Wattha. Police said bad weather caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The car rolled off the road and turned upside down.

The family had been driving from Kurunegala to Bandarawela through the hill country. Their car suffered major damage during the crash. Emergency workers rushed all four victims to Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for treatment. Doctors are caring for the injured family members at the medical center. Police officers from Nuwara Eliya station arrived at the scene to investigate what happened.

Officers determined that poor weather conditions led to the serious accident. Rain and wet roads made driving dangerous on the mountain highway. The car could not stay on the slippery pavement when the driver tried to navigate the route. Investigators continue to examine the crash site and gather evidence. Police will complete their report about the family accident.
