A highway collision killed five people and left 11 others seriously injured after a passenger bus struck a parked commercial truck on Saturday on the Kumasi-Accra Highway near Konongo. The Sprinter bus crashed into the stationary tipper truck at Atwedie while rounding a bend early that morning. Emergency crews extracted passengers trapped inside the damaged vehicle and transported survivors to area medical facilities.
Local official Patrick Antwi Kakari said three additional crashes happened on the same road section earlier that day, creating severe congestion. The assembly member for Atwedie requested urgent safety measures such as enhanced road markers, additional illumination and stronger enforcement of vehicle parking rules. The repeated accidents have raised alarm about hazards along this heavily traveled route connecting two major cities.
