Five Dead in Kampala Gulu Road Carnage

Five people died and six suffered serious injuries after a taxi crashed into a milk truck Sunday night. The accident happened at 8:30 p.m. at Kyalweza village near Nakasongola district on the Kampala-Gulu highway. A Toyota Hiace taxi carrying passengers to Kigumba hit a Nissan milk truck heading toward Kampala. Police suspect the taxi driver was speeding and lost control before the head-on collision. Both vehicles suffered major damage from the impact.

Regional police spokesperson Sam Twineamazima said officers removed the bodies and took them to Nakasongola health center for examination. Medical workers rushed the injured passengers to Nakasongola health center and Kiryandongo hospital for emergency treatment. Police towed both damaged vehicles to Katuugo station for evidence collection. Officers continue working to identify all victims from the crash. The investigation remains active as authorities gather witness statements.

The Greater Luwero region sees many deadly crashes each year on dangerous roads. Police recorded 46 accidents between September 26 and October 29 that killed 21 people. Dangerous passing, reckless parking and poor lighting cause most crashes according to traffic reports. Heavy trucks block narrow roads and create hazards for smaller vehicles. Authorities want drivers to drive more carefully on high-risk highway sections.
